Our Martial Arts Instructors
Grand Master Jim Cormier

In 1987, Shihan Cormier opened this martial arts dojo and has been the head instructor ever since. Personally teaching every jujitsu and karate class, Jim has trained hundreds of adults and children in his jujitsu and karate programs and has promoted 100’s 0f black belts.
Over the years, Jim has given many self-defense seminars to nonprofit organizations, such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, women’s groups, au pair groups, adult education groups and police departments.
Shihan Cormier’s credentials:
- October 14, 2023: Promoted to 7th Degree Black Belt (Kaiden Shihan) in Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujutsu by Nidai Soke Menkyo Kaiden San Dai Kichu, Antonio Garcia.
- October 14, 2017: Promoted to 6th Degree Black Belt Shihan (Master) in Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujutsu by Soke Menkyo Kaiden-Shihan San Dai Kichu Michael LaMonica.
- November 11/2016: Promoted to 4th Degree Black Belt (Yondan) in Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujutsu by Soke Menkyo Kaiden-Shihan San Dai Kichu Michael LaMonica.
- December 20, 2005: Promoted to 4th degree black belt and certified instructor in Yoshitsune Jujitsu by Master Larry Garron.
- October 16, 2004: Inducted into the World Martial Arts Federation Hall of Fame.
- April 1, 2003: Promoted to 3rd degree black belt in Hakkoryu Jujitsu by Master Larry Garron and certified as such by the Hakkoryu Jujutsu Headquarters in Japan.
- March 24, 2000: Inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame as a “Master Instructor of the Year”.
- November 19, 1999: Promoted to 7th degree black belt in Buke-do Goju ryu Karate and awarded the title of Shihan (Master) by Master Larry Garron.
Jujutsu
Sensei Charles Williams
Sensei Williams has been training here since January 9, 2001 and is the assistant instructor in our Teen/Adult Jujutsu Programs.
Charles came to us after two years of intensive training in Nihon Jujutsu in Japan under 10th Dan (Hanshi) Sensei Shizuya Sato. He has been an excellent instructor here and is highly respected for his knowledge, skills, sense of humor, and the true joy he brings to teaching others.
He is a graduate of Stanford University and his profession is software development.

- 3rd Degree Black Belt in Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujutsu
- 2nd Degree Black Belt in Hakkoryu Jujutsu
- 2nd Degree Black Belt in Yoshitsune Jujitsu
- Brown Belt Nihon Jujitsu
Sensei Alan MacLeod
Sensei Macleod is a 2nd degree black belt in our Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujutsu program.
He is also a 1st degree black belt in Yoshitsune Jujutsu and a brown belt in Kodokan Judo.
Karate
Sensei Tim Boothroyd
Sensei Boothroyd has been training here since March, 2009. He is a 4th Degree Black Belt in our Goju Ryu Karate program and is the assistant instructor in our Teen/Adult Karate classes.
Sensei Brendan Albanese
Sensei Albanese has been training here for more than 20 years. He is a 4th degree black belt in our Goju Ryu Karate program and is an assistant instructor in our Teen/Adult classes.
Sensei Mike Kozak
Sensei Mike Kozak is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in our Goju Ryu Karate program. He is an assistant instructor in our kids and teen/adult programs. He is also a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujutsu. Sensei Kozak is an RN in the ED at a major Boston hospital and is getting married September, 2024.
Sensei Sara Buckley
Sensei Buckley has been training here since 2012 and is a 2nd degree black belt in our Goju Ryu Karate program and is an assistant instructor in our Kids/Teen/Adult programs.
Sara is also a 2nd degree black belt in Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujutsu. She has won first place in several karate tournaments.
